Pediatric Problems
Malpositioned Toes
Often times children are born with toes that are not aligned
in a normal manner. If caught early, many of these deformities can
be corrected prior to walking. Early detection can eliminate the need for
future surgical repair.
"Toeing In"
Most babies begin life with their toes pointing slightly outward.
On occasion, a baby is born with feet turned inward, probably due to the
position of the baby while lying in the womb. This condition may
make learning to walk difficult, and tripping may be the first sign of
toeing in.
Flat Feet
Infants and
developing toddlers may appear to have flat feet once they are able to
stand. This condition may make it difficult for children to keep up
with other children because of added strain on the feet and legs.
"Many times parents are told that their infant's or toddler's
problems are temporary and will be outgrown. Although this does
apply in some cases, it is
best to have the baby or child evaluated by a podiatrist. When
dealing with an infant or toddler, there are many conservative treatment
options that can be instituted prior to walking. Left untreated,
however, some problems may require more complex surgical repair in the future." |
